oOh to be a Comedian… Handler’s LSD Trip

Chelsey Handlers LSD Trip story on Call Her Daddy POD:

Last week on the Call Her Daddy POD, Chelsey Handley recounted the story of meeting a random, elderly couple, clearly in love and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Enjoying a nice LSD trip with her friends on the streets of Mallorca, Spain she did not hesitate to share some psychedelic love. Not only did she offer the seasoned newlyweds her two kayaks for an evening paddle in the cove, but after clearing a few heart related medical questions, she hooked the 80 year old pair up with kayaks and micro-doses of LSD for each.

They took her up on both!  After taking the kayaks out for a spin they found themselves happily stranded for hours on a cove. As you do on that perfect micro-dose of LSD they rehashed memories and enjoyed next level senses and intimacy.

Enjoying psychedelics, time moves slowly and passes quickly. Hours later the couple finally made it their way back to Handler’s place.  Excited to express their absolute appreciation, they knocked on the door to share their mind blowing, life changing experience.

Feel No Shame

As you decide where you land on shame or if your instinct is to pass judgement on Handler for sharing her LSD, please remember the last time you freely uncorked bottles of wine as friends and strangers than stumbled home in a drunken stupor.

While handing out LSD to strangers may be shocking to some, those of us who have experience with micro-dosing classical psychedelics would be hard pressed to shame Handler’s generosity.

I am not advocating for peddling psychedelics and agree there are risks when taking or sharing any foreign substance, especially one that dances hard with brain chemistry and neuroplasticity.

What Handler did, recounting this experience. was to normalize it.

It is, of course, what comedians do so well. So, before you pass your judgement, consider the progress made. Understand that when we open and expose communication one is forced to stop and think twice before throwing shade and indulging in fear and shame.

Again, while handing out LSD to strangers may seem extreme and even unconscionable, one can also understand the desire to share, to let others in on the secrets of psychedelics and enable them to dial in their own mind blowing experience.

If we are going to throw shame perhaps its time to kick some up on the War on Drugs.

Chelsey, forget the Merlot…  if I find myself wandering the streets of Mallorca, I would be happy to take you up on your kayaks and LSD!

Tanya’s Tip: If you are experimenting with any drug it is important to educate yourself on their effects, proper dosage, and interaction with other drugs. If a new experience, start slow, track and use with intention. Resources like, pychonautwiki.org are useful to help dial in dosing and contraindications with other drugs.

War on Drugs

History repeats itself.  As we find ourselves battling billionaires, tech bros and bitcoin we are reminded that Henry Aslinger, Hearst Media, and Dupont paved the way. As we fill our oceans with non-degradable plastics in lieu of hemp, dismantle entire communities to protect white legacy wealth all at the costs of human liberty, rights and justice we must ask…

Which side will I stand?

I grew up with D.A.R.E.. Anti-drug campaigns peddled shame and and fear mongering that compared one’s brain on drugs to sunny side up eggs sizzling in a frying pan.  No differentiation between drugs, no real education,  just fear, fear, and more fear!

As history repeats itself, we circle back to “Just Say No” . Mixed messaging toggles between clemency and "death penalty for drug dealers”.  We are left with uncertainty as progress and real harm reduction seems to elude us just as the train has left the station.

Same old story, different day. Beware my friends, if we get wind, once again, for the call to lock up the "hippies", dismantle culture and communities, and target rac under the guise of protecting our children and white women from "drugs", perhaps we should question the message, think twice, and act.

As censorship prevails and conspiracy theories and misinformation run roughshod over our airways we must take a breath, think it through, and it seems, rely on the truth sayers, i.e., the comedians, trying to make sense of the idiocracy.

Tanya’s Tip: Drugs, if untested or from an unknown origin may be life threatening. Be safe and protect those around you. Fentanyl testing strips and Narcan Nasal Spray, if readily available, can prevent overdose.

To learn more about Narcan and how to use it visit Saved My Life. I founded this non-profit with the purpose of providing free Narcan where people work, live, and play in Illinois.
